- Lew Sterritt Justice Center
- Suzanne Lee Kays Detention Facility

- West Tower Detention Facility
Booking typically takes a few hours after you arrive at the facility. During this time, you will be fingerprinted, have your personal belongings cataloged and filed away, have your booking photo taken, and get time to make a phone call. After this process is complete, the next step is arraignment. This happens no longer than 72 hours after your arrest. This is a court hearing where you will hear the charges against you and have the chance to enter a plea. This is also when the judge will set bail if you are eligible. Once you have your bail information, you or your representative can work with us to arrange for your prompt release.
About Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX is located in North Texas. It is the county seat for Dallas County and is a twin city to Fort Worth, TX, which is only about 30 miles away. Dallas and Fort Worth along with the surrounding suburbs and counties make up the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, DFW, or the Metroplex. Dallas is the third most populous city in Texas, behind Houston and San Antonio, with a population of about 1.3 million. The entire Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area had a population of over 6 million in 2010.
Dallas was founded by John Neely Bryan, a lawyer and trader from Tennessee, in 1841. He built the first cabin in the area on a riverbank, which still sits in downtown Dallas. Shortly thereafter, more settlers moved in and established the town. The origins of the name are not 100% clear. It may have been named for an early settler named Joseph Dallas or for the Vice-President of the United States from 1845 – 1849, George Mifflin Dallas. Swiss and German immigrants, French artisans from a failed nearby settlement, and newly freed African Americans contributed to a population boom in the late 1800’s. Additionally, railroad expansion in the 1870’s brought new commerce and trade to the area.
Today, Dallas is a cultural and commercial hub for North Texas. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy is a grim part of Dallas’ cultural history. The Sixth Floor Museum and JFK memorials still draw many visitors today. Visitors also come to Dallas for the high end shopping and fine dining. Unfortunately, Dallas is also known for its high crime rate. In 2020, non-violent crime rates have remained flat or gone down, but violent crime has risen substantially.
